Back 2 Basics was a life changing experience for my son. The staff and alumni are good people who form a community that help support the men in not just remaining sober but enjoying their lives as well. The men continue to support one another after completing the program. The many outdoor adventure trips were amazing. I highly recommend this program.
This place has rocketed me in a new direction! I was living in my car and using heroine daily for the years leading up to my intake at B2B. I went through 6 months in residential and 6 months in transition. B2B didn't just get me sober but it helped me find my life passion. Helping other like minded addicts in recovery find themselves in an outdoor adventure setting. I'll have 2 years clean in less than a month and am guiding full time with B2B. Who would have thought!! - Aaron DiNapoli
Back2Basics did so much for me and my family and I can't thank them enough. The staff actually care about what happens to the clients that go through and complete the 6 months of the program. I appreciate everything Roy and the team have done for us. The outdoor aspect of the program was a huge part of the recovery process as well. Not only the therapeutic aspect with the therapist but with being out in nature and having that be a grounding foundation to reconnect what was once lost.
Back2Basics is an incredible program for men. I am a big believer of extended care treatment and that’s one of the best parts about Back2Basics. I also believe that men and women are different and each need a different type of approach. And I believe Back2Basics truly understands that. I have known Roy both personally and professionally for over 10 years now and I can’t say enough great things about him. I also wanted to highlight the outdoor adventure component at Back2Basics. They truly know how to connect this experience with recovery and it’s a crucial part of the culture at Back2Basics. I also believe the power of outdoors connects with the power that exists within each of us that is so desperately wanting to come out especially in early recovery. I think Back2Basics has a true niche in providing quality treatment for men. I would highly recommend this program.
Back2Basics was a big step in restoring our family. The components of the program (outdoor education, staff, 12 step program, cooking and life skills and living in real time) all work together to help young men learn about a different and healthier lifestyle. Thank you B2B!
Truly an amazing experience going through a year of this program. This gave me another chance at having a happy and healthy life. The beautiful places I was fortunate enough to explore with the outdoor program felt like a once in a lifetime opportunity that taught me how to appreciate life and the outdoors again. I have made friends through this program that will be with me for the rest of my life. It was exactly what I needed in order to turn my life around from a dark place. I am forever grateful for the lessons and life skills back 2 basics taught me that I will use throughout my life.
As an Art Therapist at Back2Basics since 2013, I appreciate the team care for all the residents. The goal to return and maintain a sober life is always the munber 1 priority. I enjoy every person I meet at Back2Basics
Approximately six months ago, our family was in complete and total crisis over our son’s drug abuse. As you can imagine, looking for a program in the midst of overwhelming fear and concern is difficult and risky. It isn’t the ideal moment for making such an important decision – but there we were in exactly that situation. It is very frightening to make a commitment that potentially will impact the entire future of your son so quickly, without the opportunity to fully research the variety of programs out there. In looking back at that moment I honestly don’t think that I could have made a better decision. My son has been at Back2basics for a little more than five months, and I just recently went to visit him for a family weekend. I walked away pleased and hopeful. While I made the choice to send him to B2B based on their website, reviews and in speaking to Roy (I should mention that I called numerous times), I can honestly say that the program goes well beyond their solid marketing skills. I honestly feel that their concern and desire to help my son is genuine and comes from the entire staff. One true asset in this program is that the number of participants is low. The small size allows the staff to work as a collective team to make a much more intimate connection and assess what each person needs, which worked great for my son. The weekly field trips are what turn the group into a close and supportive squad. These are not pansy walks in the park. This is a complete outdoor program that builds physical and emotional strength. They are also doing an activity that allows them to experience how much better they can enjoy life when sober and healthy; how the best activities can really only be appreciated and accomplished when you take care of yourself. They can have fun again and be strong and enjoy life without drugs. The beauty and drama of nature and the sweat equity they put into their outdoor excursions are very powerful for their self esteem and in finding joy in completing difficult goals. Another component of B2B that really has connected with me is the amount of time and dedication put into creating a community of sober guys to support and help each other not just during the program but also after the program. If these guys had to walk out of this program alone without a sober group of friends and a sober support system, the whole thing would probably fail in my opinion. Instead, they are forging new friendships and bonds that will help them keep their focus, as well as their new-found energy and ambition for living a productive and happy sober life. They work on healthy life skills, cooking together, working, and for those who need it, eventually going back to school and finding jobs and careers. It hasn’t been easy. My son can be challenging at times. As one staff member told me, “He is in good hands. We love him through his temper-tantrums and we get him to the other end.” That has stayed with me since the beginning. My son still has a few months to go before he starts his sober life outside of Back2Basics. Hopefully he will stay in the transition program Beyond the Basics. I hear him making plans now for the future, emotionally connected to the other sober guys and most importantly to seeing himself sober. Now he has started to be at peace with the idea of being sober instead of viewing sobriety as giving something up. We as a family are very grateful to have found Back2Basics.
We are so gratefull for the Back2Basics program. My son was in a downward spiral, engaging in self destructive behavior, extremely depressed. The B2B dedicated, skilled, caring staff have turned his world around. I can’t thank them enough. This is a solid, effective program and long enough for real change to happen. They have restored my son to health and helped him find the motivation to move to the next chapter of his life with confidence. Forever thankful for these wonderful folks!
A year ago my son entered the Back to Basics program an addict, broken, and almost dead. As a parent you feel powerless, frightened, and full of despair because the wonderful child you love has slowly disappeared as the monster of addiction grew stronger. The residential programs gave him a safe place to heal, develop healthy habits, and gain integrity. The outdoor program was life changing. Through therapy, AA meetings and his sponsor he gained awareness, humility, and skills to cope with life in a positive way. This program is six months to a year because true change doesn’t happen in a 30 day program. I’m proud of my son because he is sober, strong, and living independently today. Thank you B to B....for showing him the way out.
I have referred to this program a few times and I have seen wonderful outcomes. As a professional in the field, I feel comfortable sending clients there knowing they will have a wonderful experience. They have a strong community along with the wilderness component. Close to great AA meetings, hiking, and universities. I have know Roy for the last few years and he has committed his life to help young people change. Not many companies have their owner working with the clients- but he’s right there with them.
The staff at Back 2 Basics is kind, friendly, and very professional. They were beyond helpful in helping my family navigate the journey we took when a member of our family joined the program. The staff was readily available to answer any questions my family had, and you can tell they are truly passionate about the work that they do. Additionally, the outdoor adventures part of the program is innovative and allows participants a renewed fascination with life. We could not be more grateful to Back 2 Basics for their unending guidance.
B2B is an incredible program.... Run by solid, down to earth individuals that truly care about the well-being of those working to get well. As someone who has been to a handful of rehabilitation centers, B2B is the last (and I am hoping it stays that way) treatment facility I attended. B2B's hybrid approach which meshes both time outdoors with intensive therapy indoors, combined with their extended length of stay is a unique approach that I personally found very effective for my own journey of getting well, and have not seen in any other facility/program. Coming up on four years, I owe much of my current health and well-being to a handful of people that carried me to where I am today. The staff at B2B are undoubtedly included in those handful of people.
Back2Basics Great concept, and I am very impressed with their program. Anyone that goes out into the back country will come back with a new spiritual take on life. These young men are taken in by a village of people who genuinely care and want them to succeed. They give them their confidence back from everyday life skills to being understanding of the peaks and valleys of sobriety and long term success.
From a parent’s perspective I am completely satisfied. The boys stay active either on adventurous weekly outings or at the gym in Flagstaff. Most make very close friendships and many stay in Flagstaff. The city is a great community with many job and educational opportunities. I’ve enjoyed my many visits. The program is well staffed with many program graduates. Could not recommended the program more highly.
What I find most impressive about Back2Basics is the personal care and attention shown to each individual in the program. The staff consistently go above and beyond to make sure the participants and their families are comfortable with the process. The curriculum is designed to foster healing of the mind, body and soul with a focus on nature and the outdoors. I cannot think of a better way to find peace through the recovery process.
Can’t say enough positive things about Back2Basics! My cousin participated in their wilderness/outdoors hybrid program and I am extremely impressed with his results and the guys he got and stayed sober with for the last two years. I would highly recommend it to any friend or family
Having worked for Back2Basics, I got to witness a plethora of addicts transform first-hand. Seeing them enter the program with no hope of a future who graduate from the program 6 months later with hopes and dreams and goals is truly incredible. Nature is a powerful place--there's nothing quite as humbling as experiencing nature in all its beauty. I think incorporating the power of the outdoors with culinary lessons, the 12-step program, martial arts and opportunities to give back to the community creates a truly unique program with an exceptionally high success rate. The testimonials speak for themselves and I am humbled to have seen so many lives changed for the better because of this program.
Over the years I've dealt with several of Back2Basics' clients and have engaged with the therapist and outdoor team directly when working on program transitions and placements. I'm always impressed by their commitment and unique approach to helping young men find a way to overcome their struggles with substance abuse and alcoholism. As a medical professional and business owner, it's always a nice treat, work and collaborate with people demonstrating not only such a level of dedication and integrity, but also refreshing to work with an organization that thinks outside of the box. Roy DuPrez and his team took a risk with their rehabilitation model and it's clearly proven to be a successful model.
I have worked with Back2Basics for over a year and it has been amazing to me to see the full breadth of their services, how they truly have a heart to help these young men recover from their addiction and teach them how to live a fulfilling sober life by having fun, focusing on nutrition, outdoor adventures, fitness, education and centered on 12-steps. Addiction recovery isn't a quick fix... its not a 30-day fix. At Back2Basics it is a 6-month residential program followed by Beyond the Basics a 6-month transition program gradually taking the young man back into real life. With this program structure they are better prepared mentally and physically. It works!
Personally, I have worked in many psychiatric facilities and addiction centers, So I a very familiar with all types of facilities. There are good facilities and then there are very bad facilities. I have also been through a treatment center and addiction myself at a young age meaning 18 - 23 years. Now I am older and I have completed college degrees(s) and work in the psychiatric field. I would definitely recommend this place. This treatment center goes out of its way to help people overcome addictions and live a sober life. They provide quality services, accommodations, and facilities that are over and beyond what you would find in most drug addiction treatment centers. This place provides quality services and activities like rafting, surfing, wilderness training, etc. gourmet food, culinary classes, upscale facilities, home like environment, surrounded by an excellent neighborhood with million dollar homes. At the same time this place definitely strives to help adults and young adults to straighten their lives out from very serious drug addictions that statistically can and do for many result in an early death for many people. Drug addiction is a life threatening illness for many young adults and it is an uphill battle. It's difficult to find a facility like this that provides excellent accommodations while helping young adults to fight this uphill battle and to turn their lives around.
